§ 6-6. Same—Impoundment.

  • The town marshal, the deputy town marshal, and such agency as the town council may contract with are hereby authorized and directed to take up and impound any animal found running at large on the streets of the town or on the property of a resident when such resident requests such action. Such animal shall be impounded and if the owner of the animal be known, he shall be notified immediately; and such owner shall have the animal returned to him upon payment of the cost of impounding. If no person shall have claimed the animal within five days after notice of impounding is given, or if no owner is known, such animal may be destroyed or otherwise disposed of at the judgment of the impounding agency.
